Launch HN: SimpleHash (YC W22) – API to query digital assets
5 by owfwduke | 0 comments
Hi HN! We’re Alex Kilkka and Olly Wilson, co-founders of SimpleHash ( https://ift.tt/fMqVR1b ). We allow developers to fetch comprehensive NFT / digital asset data from many blockchains at once. Using our API, developers don’t have to worry about how different chains like Ethereum, Solana, and Flow implement digital assets under-the-hood. We collect, standardize, and cache all this information for you, so you can retrieve it in a single request. There has been a lot of controversy and hype around NFTs, but we’re focused on solving the technical challenges that our customers (software developers working with digital assets) deal with on a day-to-day basis. SimpleHash doesn’t hold, transfer, mint or issue any form of crypto or digital asset ourselves — instead we aim to be the most comprehensive data provider for people who need to programmatically access this kind of information and media. Working with digital asset data is harder than other kinds of blockchain data. For a given item, you typically have to go to 3 separate places to get data - which oftentimes includes a decentralized storage system (such as IPFS or Arweave) that may timeout or be unavailable. To pull the ownership history requires parsing through the extensive log history of a blockchain. And that’s just for one NFT on one chain. We’re building SimpleHash because our co-founder Alex experienced these pain points at his last startup, an NFT showcasing product called showtime.xyz. While there he built out an in-house indexer because no suitable alternatives existed for getting cross-chain data. After leaving showtime, Alex teamed up with Olly, a friend from college, to help fill this gap in developer tooling. As digital asset activity has moved across chains and ecosystems, it’s become increasingly difficult for companies to deal with this data in-house. Our indexer has now ingested half a billion assets across 16 blockchain networks, including testnets, and the volume and complexity is only growing. SimpleHash is doing a number of things differently than other solutions. We generate thumbnails and blurhashes for images, along with SVG to PNG conversion (to improve compatibility with mobile apps). We pull in marketplace data, like floor prices and sales transactions, even from sources that do listings off-chain. We provide a spam score to help apps like wallets filter out unwanted NFTs. We provide enterprise-grade support and integration assistance, which many companies expect in web2, but is hard to find in web3. We’re one of the few options to have comprehensive coverage of both mainnets and testnets. If you’re a developer building in the space, we’d love for you to try the API. You can read the full documentation here: https://ift.tt/wd3pJW1 , and generate API keys here: https://ift.tt/6Ni34Ej . We have a free tier for experimentation and testing, and beyond that our pricing model is request based, similar to other APIs. If you need help with anything, feel free to contact us at founders@simplehash.com. We launched the initial version of the API coming out of YC and have had strong reception so far - we’re now serving some of the leading web3 wallets, like Phantom and Rainbow, and dozens of other players. Please don’t hesitate to share your feedback and questions. Thank you.

Ask HN: How do you plan to archive all your digital content?
11 by ezconnect | 17 comments
I have been wondering on how I could preserve some of my digital photos so my son could access them when I am long gone. I currently have a mix of iCloud and OneDrive but those requires account logins and I couldn't find a convenient way of like hey son here is all your baby pictures and all of our adventure when we where still living together. Any suggestions?

How to lose access of our your servers on DigitalOcean
29 by migueltarga | 23 comments
I have an account on DigitalOcean for long time and I was using Github Login as the method of authentication. For the past 7 years I had my company email as my primary email, and my personal email as secondary. August 18, 2022 1:56:22 PM PDT I removed my primary email account because we had a merge in our company, and now we use different emails. Now I can't get access to my DigitalOcean account, because for some reason they don't use the GitHub identifier but the email address. ( Also I lost access of my company email ) Im trying to get access to my account for the last 20 hours, they requested a picture of my ID, and of me holding my ID. They have everything to change the primary email to the one I requested, but the support team don't understand the problem... So Be careful using GitHub as your DigitalOcean authentication method! Someone had a similar issue in 2020: https://twitter.com/salzian_dev/status/1293975538990813187

Show HN: Lumina Desk – digital desk for health and productivity
38 by rlei | 19 comments
We’re Mike and Raymond – cofounders at Lumina. We’re excited to share what we’ve been working on, the Lumina Desk ( https://ift.tt/lwQRWrf ). Last January, we founded Lumina with the mission of building the next-generation workspace. We started off by launching a product called the Lumina Webcam, essentially a modern webcam that uses software to make you look good. Building hardware is hard, and it’s been no different for us. We ran an Indiegogo campaign in September that raised ~$700k, scrambled to figure out hardware production (encountering every obstacle you can imagine - customs, supplier issues, parts incompatibilities), and chewed through enough glass in order to start shipping in December. But between then and now, we’ve scaled up production and have gotten some great customer feedback. Next: we’re building the desk. We set out to rethink this centuries-old product and figure out how to make it into a more useful, productivity enhancing tool. To start, we’re viewing the desk as a digital device, not just a mechanical one. Your desk could be an extension of your digital workspace; a complement to your phone and computer. So we’re designing the Lumina Desk to have an embedded display. The thought is: from your desk, you’ll be able to check your calendar, receive call and chat notifications, and more. Or you can install (or build your own) apps to further customize it. Think of the browser tabs that you keep open to occasionally glance at – the ones with dashboards or calendars or news feeds. These can now be in your desk, playing a role similar to a paper calendar or newspaper, but now in a seamlessly digital format. With a digital desk, it can also play an active role in your health. Like a way to schedule times to sit or stand, or sensors that detect ergonomic input, or an in-desk dashboard that shows you your health stats. Finally, we surveyed all the desks on the market and were surprised that few of them had the core fundamentals people want. How many desks have enough cable storage to hide all your cables? Enough usb and 110v sockets to power your workstation? Enough wireless charging space to charge all your wireless devices? These features should be tablestakes for any professional desk. We’re in the early days of the desk, and there’s still room to shape the development of the product. If you have ideas on how we make the ultimate workspace, reach out and let us know. If you might be interested in building apps, we’d love to talk to you about building our first few apps. Thanks so much for reading this. There’s a ton of work to be done, and your early support means a lot to us.

Show HN: Thoughts on Digital Sticky Notes
5 by afont | 21 comments
All the apps that allow you to put stickys on a board to manage progress are missing the point. Tasks to do tasks dont necessarily lead you to accomplishing your goals. I built a tool with my team that makes users align all work to their goals. No way around it. We call them missions. Let me know your thoughts! Roast it, love it, be confused by it...let us know! https://twigflo.com

Show HN: Fruits – sell digital products in less than 2 minutes
22 by peteconcrete | 13 comments
Hi HN! Whilst trying to build an online community for content creators, we failed! Taking the learnings and stripping down our product to a true MVP, we now started working on "fruits", which allows creators to sell files such as ebooks, designs, checklists, music and online coachings online in less than two minutes. https://fruits.de/en It works as simple as this: 1. upload a file at "fruits" & set a price 2. you will receive your individual fruits-sales-link 3. share the link wherever your customers are (e.g. website, newsletter, social media) In addition, we also take care of the tedious office work such as invoicing and VAT collection for you, and this is completely automated. What do you think? We are looking forward to your feedback!

Ask HN: What's the most stable form of digital storage?
25 by agomez314 | 51 comments
I wrote a program which I'm proud of having done and would like to keep it for posterity. What's a good storage medium where I can keep and load again in the future? Requirements are: size < 1GB, must keep for at least 3 decades, must be easily transportable (for moves between houses and such) and can sit on a shelf. Bonus points for suggestions on an equally stable storage type that some computer will still be able to understand in the future.

Ask HN: Do you manage your family's digital safety?
27 by arzmir | 12 comments
Most of my family members (nuclear and extended) have little interest in spending time to manage their digital selves. Amongst other things making sure they have control of their passwords and accounts in a safe matter. I've lately decided to set up a 1Password Family Account to help at least my nuclear family into taking net security more serious. - What steps did you take to make it simple enough for your family to care? - Did you retain any restorative powers? As in keeping master passwords to certain things and/or emergency accesses like in LastPass? - Which subjects spurred the most discussions and how did you solve it? - Which items do you share amongst all family members? Edit: Formatting

Show HN: Fast way to build digital presence across multiple platforms
6 by anuragk11 | 0 comments
Hello, I am a tech blogger and last year I wanted to have my own website for writing blogs and doing content marketing. Since I love programming, I could have built the site by myself but I wanted to test the no-code solutions, so after spending sometime researching I ended up going with Wordpress. However i found it tedious and for some reasons, hard and slow. Anyways, I tried other platforms like Wix too. Problem then came was I had to share my work on social media platforms to get more readers and also post it on hashnode and Medium. It was becoming time consuming and monotonous process. Hence, I decided to build a solution and the result is Leansence. It is geared towards bloggers and content marketers. It provides an easy to use website builder with the ability to write blogs and add products, with unlimited bandwidth. You can also directly post your blog to Medium(hashnode and dev.to support will be added soon) and also share it on twitter( can also split it into threads). It also has social media tools so you can schedule your Twitter posts and threads. Hence you are getting website builder, blogging ability, as well as social media tools. I have great ideas for the future and any feedback would be appreciated.

Show HN: I made a little digital circuit simulator that operates on PNGs
9 by lynndotpy | 1 comments
This is a little toy project of mine that lets you simulate digital logic graphs. It was inspired by Minecraft's Redstone and the Piet esolang. It's got some serious drawbacks-- you write circuits as PNGs and simulate them with a Python interface. It's slow to run and slow to experiment with. And it is certainly difficult to use for people with any kind of color blindness. But despite that, I hope this can still be a fun toy!
